This is a very dope piece. Thanks to you Wendy.

To me,now year's resolutions feels like a Disneyland trip of the whole year in a hot minute.you get a hit of Dopamine levels just by planning the change(resolutions).Your brain mistakes intentions for achievements only to get "hit by reality" within the first few days of the year.😂 (resolutions sometimes are premeditated exiting sadness)

Thank you, Timothy!! Yes, they're often hyped-up aspirations without embodied commitment.

Please say more about "resolutions sometimes are premeditated exiting sadness"...

"Resolutions sometimes are premeditated exiting sadness"

Here is where you find that after making those resolution say for this year, you'll have thought about it, and sometimes be exited that youve made it already and once the year Flys by,there you are reviewing your new years resolution for that year only to find you didn't achieve much of it or any of it.

Again ,a hot minute of sadness and seeing yourself as a failure all year long.

But when another time comes to make resolution, again there you are knowing very well that last year's wasn't accomplished, made you sad, made you feel like a worthless looser if you didn't achieve any.and this cycle might continue for a very long time.

Is cumulatively gets to a critical point we'd call "STAGNATION ",What Bertrand Russell in the book "In Praise of idleness " describes as

"We are constantly reving ,very much like an engine but fail to engage a gear" forward or backwards.

I guess we should all learn to cross the bridge when we get to the river ,taking every moment in life as it is without rush.living a day after the other.

BLISS..

Love it, I agree when our goals or plans are too rigid we miss out on the magic that may unfold. This year for me will be about curiosity and creativity, and I'm looking forward to where that will take me. Best wishes for the new year for you 💜

It's sounds as if your art journey is going to be a juicy one this year, Sophie! Good for you. I can't wait to hear more. Wishing you all good things this new year. 💜

Your questions resonate with me so, Wendy. This post is a beautiful and thoughtful recast of your earlier one, with your “why” spirit shining through. Thank you and happy new year!

My Scots gran used to say "Begin as you intend to continue." Not that she followed her own advice, mind you, but that saying has stuck with me for the six-plus decades since. So that's what I do every solar and calendar New Year: begin the day and the year as I intend (hope, dream) to continue. I think Gran Chris' saying is a kind of abridged version of the words you shared from Francis Bacon, appropriate to the Highland Scots' laconic culture. Thanks for your inspiration and wisdom, Wendy, and here's to following our passions. May 2026 be a kinder and more compassionate year for all of us!

I love the idea of intentionally starting as you intend to continue—even as a daily practice. Yes, here’s to following our passions and making the world a better place in 2026. 🧡

"When I’m turned on to an idea or project, resolutions are unnecessary." I remember my first encounter with the photo of the art class; Pure joy then, pure joy now. Thank you for continuing to be an inspiration. "We have only this moment" indeed. May your openness to whatever 2026 brings continue to be at least as delightful as 2025. We'll be 'here' for it.

Mark, I so appreciate you and your kind words. As they say, ‘joy is contagious’, but it does require a measure of openness to receive it. Thanks for being another receptive soul. To joy in 2026! 🩵

I love how you refer to adventure with a feminine pronoun.

I'm gonna take that and run with it. Thank you!

Thank you, Lawrence! My version of adventure is more flowing than directed (though I’ve done plenty of that too), so it seemed appropriate. Wishing you lots of adventure!
